Simple definition of fuel oil

Fuel oil is a lighter type of oil or a liquid by-product made of petroleum and used for the power industry, in particular as regards heating. If it is made of refined petroleum, then there are two main categories to classify it. One of them is a distillate oil, which includes diesel fuel (usually used for home heating), and the other is a residual-type oil, which includes kerosene. Various types of fuel oils are classified within the two categories.
